Sony's codenamed Thebes console to be priced around $400 along with the next Xbox.
In the aftermath of CES, rumors of next-generation consoles are picking up steam.
In subsequent reports, CVG is citing first, Sony Home Entertainment VP Hiroshi Sakamoto, second, SemiAccurate.com, and finally, analyst Colin Sebastian of Baird Equity Research, in stating that the PS4 is perilously close to being revealed prior to E3. The following quotes were originally given in Spanish to emol.com, "That's still a big secret, but our friends are preparing PlayStation. I can only say that we are focused on the E3 gaming event, scheduled for June. Announcement may be in that minute or even earlier in May. In that time we expect to deliver great news, but we must wait until May at least.
CVG's reasoning with regards to using 'PlayStation 4' instead of any kind of codename is credited towards rumors out of SemiAccurate.com, which stresses the codename 'Thebes' over 'Orbis.'
The pricing rumors come via "'off-the-record' meetings with 'a number of companies'" and analyst Colin Sebastian.
In addition to declaring a near $400 price point for both the next PlayStation and next Xbox, Colin Sebastian is quoted as describing that both consoles will rely heavily on "'off the shelf' high-end PC components" that should help to flatten the learning curve and online service implementation for developers for the new platforms.
