Also, arena football won't be EA exclusive. But we're having a hard time imagining who really cares.
EA has been the dominant force in football for years, significantly helped along by the fact that no one else can actually make an NFL or NCAA game. The company has had an exclusive contract with both for quite some time, but things are changing.
A proposed settlement to an anti-trust suit against the company, EA may be dropping NCAA exclusivity starting in 2014. The publisher will also be able to sign an exclusive deal with the AFL and will have to pay out customers that purchased EA football games in the past – up to $6.79 a game. The NFL license, as you might imagine, didn't come up in EA's proposition.
The settlement has not yet been approved.
