This could be a big blow for Sony, who just lost a pair of executives as well.
When it comes to games that really take risks and push the boundaries, games like 'ICO' and 'Shadow of the Colossus' stand out. Both of these games were created by Team ICO and designed by Fumito Ueda. Neither game sold 'Modern Warfare' numbers, but the critical acclaim and fan praise gave Sony some prestigious games to show off as exclusives. A little like when a movie studio has an Oscar winning film. It's not about money - it's about status.
According to the rumor mills, Ueda has resigned from Sony, which would certainly be a big blow for both Sony and Team ICO. The designer won't be leaving 'The Last Guardian' before it's finished though. He'll be completing the game as a contract employee instead of a full-time staff member.
The Udea rumor hit right at the same time as Sony confirmed that Marketing VP Scott Steinberg and SVP of public relations Rob Dyer have left the company. Dyer left to pursue a career at Zynga, but Steinberg hasn't revealed what he's up to.
