That's the highest concurrent user count ever on Steam, up from 4 million in September.
On January 2nd, Steam recorded a record number of concurrent users with a total of just over 5 million. It's a new record for the service, but even more importantly it's a very quick escalation from the previous high of 4 million that happened back in September.
Though people often declare the death of PC gaming, these numbers show a significant incline recently. They're only focused on the Steam service of course, but it's definitely an indicator of growth.
It also goes to show that some folks really don't have a lot to do on their day off. Hey, we're not judging. We had January 2nd off here too and at least a few of us contributed to those numbers.
