The dramatic miniseries set in the world of ballet will arrive on Blu-ray next year.
In an early announcement to retailers, Starz/Anchor Bay will be releasing 'Flesh and Bone' on Blu-ray on January 5.
Ballet is the ultimate optical illusion, graceful and dignified on the outside but brutal, cruel and ruthless underneath. Never captured in its truest form before, “Flesh and Bone” rips away the illusion of the dance world and shows us what’s behind the curtain. From Emmy™ award-winning writer Moira Walley-Beckett (“Breaking Bad”), “Flesh and Bone” is a coming-of-age drama about a young ballet dancer with a deeply troubled past. Through her eyes, we explore the true underbelly of the dance world and all its self-destructive tendencies. The Starz original limited series features 8 one-hour episodes and premiered on Starz November 8, 2015.
In “Flesh and Bone,” Claire, played by former American Ballet Theatre principal Sarah Hay (Black Swan), joins a prestigious ballet company in New York. She’s beautiful, soulful, talented and an emotionally wounded young woman who somehow still possesses an innate innocence and fragility while at the same time harboring self-destructive tendencies and a vaulting ambition. Claire is a transcendent ballerina, capable of reaching the sublime but her inner torment and aspirations drive her in unforeseeable ways. Along the way, she encounters drugs, sex, starvation, desire, betrayal, pain, punishment, fear, rebellion, insecurity and ambition.
The cast includes 22 accomplished ballet dancers including former American Ballet Theatre soloist Sascha Radetsky (Center Stage) and Irina Dvorovenko, also a former American Ballet Theatre principal. Ethan Stiefel (Center Stage), formerly the artistic director of the Royal New Zealand Ballet and a former American Ballet Theatre principal, served as choreographer. Other cast includes Emily Tyra (“Boardwalk Empire”), Damon Herriman (“Justified”), Tina Benko (“The Good Wife”) and Ben Daniels (“House of Cards”). Created by “Breaking Bad” writer/executive producer Moria Walley-Beckett, “Flesh and Bone” was executive produced by Lawrence Bender (Inglourious Basterds), Kevin Brown (“Roswell”) and John Melfi (“House of Cards”).
