'Blood Omen' and 'Soul Reaver' fans should brace for a non-traditional Legacy of Kain game.
After a series of leaks stemming from notes in the Steam database and in AMD's Catalyst drivers, as well as some of Square Enix's newly registered domains, Square Enix has decided to reveal that 'Nosgoth' is in fact in development.
From Square Enix community manager George Kelion, "Nosgoth exists and is in active development, but is not a traditional Legacy of Kain action-adventure game. Nosgoth is set in the same universe as previous LoK games, but on a different branch to the Blood Omen and Soul Reaver series. The community should not be thinking of Nosgoth in terms of a single-player experience."
Fans of the series can be forgiven for thinking in terms of a single-player, action-RPG as that was the mold for all prior titles in the long dormant series. On the other hand, in order for the series to succeed, new directions may be necessary. Either way, it's clear that Square Enix was concerned that the rumors could be ultimately be harmful, especially with regards to long-time series developer Crystal Dynamics.
"We don’t want people to get the wrong idea about Nosgoth following the AMD and Steam leaks ahead of its future official announcement. Nosgoth is not being developed by Crystal Dynamics. Crystal Dynamics are not working on a Legacy of Kain game. "This isn’t something we’d normally do, but we wanted to just give folks a bit more context for the direction, rather than just batten down the hatches."
The game is not expected to be part of any E3 presentations, so for now hopes for the Legacy of Kain series will have to wait.
