It's a distinctly different game for the experienced role-playing game developers.
Obsidian Entertainment is the development studio behind 'Knights of the Old Republic II,' 'Neverwinter Nights 2,' 'Alpha Protocol' and 'Fallout: New Vegas.' It's a company built on serious RPGs with a tendency towards a darker edge and a serious tone.
Their newly announced game has been taking people by surprise. It's not post-apocalyptic or set against a fantasy backdrop and it's anything but serious. Obsidian Entertainment's next RPG is 'South Park: The Game.'
The project was revealed by Game Informer Magazine, which says that the game will ship in mid to late 2012. Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of the long-running comedy series, are writing the script and providing voices.
Danny Bilson, an executive vice president at THQ, the company publishing the game, is quite pleased to have 'South Park' in the works. "Matt and Trey are arguably two of the most important comedic talents of their generation," he says. "Bringing their vision of South Park to the interactive space is a dream-come-true."
