"We always thought we're going to do that eventually."
Despite coming out with a strict "No" in terms of both MP3 and DLNA support on the PS4, the features now appear to be officially in the works, though a timetable has not yet been broached.
In an interview with Giant Bomb, SCE President Shuhei Yoshida continued to express surprise over the response to non-support for both MP3 and DLNA features. Yoshida seemed through translation to state that omission of those features was just a matter of prioritizing other features first. "Like we've been saying, the focus has been always on the game features. And some of the features we wanted but we couldn't get in on day one — game features — we are very disappointed and worried about not having on day one and that have been the higher priorities."
Yoshida continued by stating that Sony "didn't really think about MP3 or DLNA," and that "We always thought we're going to do that eventually. We've been doing it with all the products." Yoshida echoed prior statements that the implementation was now under discussion with various PS4 system teams.
Perhaps more significant than Yoshida's artful explanations is that the original statement, the PS4 FAQ, has been modified from a "No" to both features to a "No*" with the footnote being "We appreciate your feedback and are exploring possibilities."
