Disney's entire new merchandising and video game initiative slips two months.
'Disney Infinity,' which Disney hopes will have families collecting Disney figures, was set for June 18th, but has slipped to August 20th. With the delay, Disney's entire video game initiative gets a development extension, but should still arrive well ahead of the ever crucial holiday season.
The 'Disney Infinity' line-up sets up entire 3D video game worlds that are accessed and explored with the aid of an NFC reader which reads chips built into the base of Disney figures. Activision's 'Skylanders' has already set the precedent for the collectability of NFC-chipped figures, and this fall will see the third iteration release, 'Skylanders Swap Force.'
A similar product from Nintendo, 'Pokémon Rumble U,' is set to release in Japan April 24th.
One of the figure line-ups that have been heavily featured in previews of 'Disney Infinity' has been 'Monsters Inc.' 'Monsters University' was supposed to be the first Disney property to have additional figures released at the time of the premiere.
