Nintendo is planning on more "evergreen" titles coming to the system.
In a recent presentation to investors, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that the company's focus for the 3DS will be "evergreen" games. By that, he means the games that still sell well a few years after release - the launch titles that are still sold new. Games like 'Mario Kart' have incredible staying power and are regular pickups for fans.
Iwata says that one of these games will be a brand new side-scrolling Mario game. The game will be released in the next fiscal year, so you can probably expect it to show up around the holidays.
"With the fulfillment of software," says Iwata, "we are confident that we will be able to make the Nintendo 3DS active for the full year as the mainstream platform in the video game market."
