Apparently we’re done saying 360p in favor of more confusing terms.
The folks at Samsung have announced a new projector phone that they’re calling “the world’s thinnest.” The Samsung Galaxy Beam is not the kind of thing that’s going to blow your mind with an impressive resolution, but it’s more easily moved than any projector to date.
Samsung says that the phone has nHD resolution, which is a new marketing term that allows companies to put “HD” on boxes and in advertisements. What nHD means, for sake of clarity, is that the phone has one-ninth the resolution of a 1080p television. In other words, you’re getting 360p.
The phone is, of course, a phone too. It gives you a 4-inch WVGA display, a dual-core processor and everything you’ve come to expect from the Android operating system. The Beam will be available this spring.
