The company's latest flagship smartphones have been revealed.
Today at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Samsung officially announced its newest Galaxy smartphones. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge feature the latest in mobile technology along with premium Corning Gorilla Glass 4 bodies.
"With the all new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, Samsung is offering what's next in mobility, along with a new standard to drive the global mobile agenda," said JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. "By listening to our customers, and learning from both our success and missteps, we continuously push forward new technologies and ideas. With a reimagined design, robust partner network and novel services, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge offer users the ultimate experience in smartphone options."
The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge both feature 5.1-inch Quad HD 2560x1440 Super AMOLED displays with 577ppi. In addition, the edge model uses a dual edge screen design that curves the display around both sides of the device. Under the hood, the smartphones are powered by a Quad 2.1GHz + Quad 1.5Ghz, Octacore application processor and 3GB of RAM running Android 5.0. A 16MP rear camera with OIS and a 5MP front camera are integrated as well. in addition, both models offer WPC and PMA certified wireless charging technology, the world’s first mobile 1440P/VP9 hardware based decoder for efficient high resolution video streaming, and the Samsung KNOX security platform. Finally, the Galaxy S6 line will also support Samsung's upcoming Samsung Pay mobile payment service.
Pricing has not been detailed yet, but the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge will launch globally on April 10. Models will be available with 32, 64 or 128GB storage options in White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz (Galaxy S6 only) and Green Emerald (Galaxy S6 edge only) colors.
