You can get a trip to the People's Choice Awards or a slick Sony home theater system. The choice seems obvious.
In just six years, the little kiosks that could, did. Redbox has officially passed the billion rental mark, thanks to a customer in Tampa, Florida who picked up 'Clash of the Titans.' Not the best movie, granted, but it's almost certainly the new favorite of CEO Mitch Lowe.
"One billion rentals is an incredible milestone," says Lowe, adding that "Redbox has quickly become the local video store for millions of consumers nationwide." He's got that right, as Redbox is one of the main sources of the demise of chains like Hollywood Video and Blockbuster.
To celebrate – the billion rentals, not the demise of competitors – the folks at Redbox are giving you the chance to win some prizes. You've got the option between a trip to the People's Choice Awards, where you'll get to gaze upon celebrities, and a Sony home theater setup that includes a 52" NX800 and a few other goodies. To enter, simply rent a movie, jump to the contest site, and enter your code.
