Fox is the latest company to make a deal with Redbox. It's the usual story; Fox is letting Redbox have cheaper access, but Redbox has to leave a 28 day window.
It won't come as a surprise to anyone that Redbox and Fox decided to settle their differences. Each company has a lot to gain from the partnership. Fox gets more revenue and more people to watch Fox movies, while Redbox gets to boast a more complete selection and keep its prices down.
The big downside from a consumer standpoint is that James Cameron's mega-hit 'Avatar' is the first Fox film to be pushed back. If you were hoping to grab 'Avatar' for a buck a night, you're out of luck.
Of course, that's a small trade for the potential of cheap Blu-ray rentals. It sounds like we'll finally start seeing Blu-ray discs in kiosks soon. "This agreement with Fox provides redbox access to standard definition and Blu-ray titles, and helps us keep rental prices low," said Redbox president Mitch Lowe.
He also said that the new deal will help, "foster kiosk expansion and support the rollout of Blu-ray titles in kiosks the middle of this year."
