The new immersive audio soundbar ships this month.
Onkyo has announced the launch of its latest soundbar model. The SBT-A500 Network Surround Soundbar System will be available this month for an MSRP of $999.
Onkyo's SBT-A500 is a three-piece system with a low 2.1" profile soundbar, a slim Network A/V Receiver, and a wireless subwoofer. The soundbar features precision drivers with two speakers each for the left, right, and center channels, plus single height speakers for overhead sound with support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X object based immersive audio formats. In addition, the system includes dual-band 5 GHz/2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity with Chromecast built-in, DTS Play-Fi technology, AirPlay, and FireConnect multi-room distribution. Four HDMI inputs are integrated as well, including a 4K/60p with Audio Return Channel TV connection.
Likewise, customers can use the Onkyo Controller app for wireless casting with easy access to included TuneIn, TIDAL, and Pandora, and system remote controls for each zone. Finally, the system also offers a 40-preset FM tuner, AV sync function, L/R tone controls, and DTS Neural:X and a Dolby Surround up-mixer for producing 3D sound.
The Onkyo SBT-A500 Network Surround Soundbar System is currently on display at CES 2017 in the Venetian Bassano Room #2601. Outside of the new soundbar, Onkyo also recently announced upcoming Chromecast built-in support for several existing audio components. Chromecast built-in tech allows customers with Chromecast-enabled AV products to use their mobile devices to stream music, radio, or podcasts, and control the audio from anywhere in the house using Cast-enabled mobile apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac and Windows laptop, and Chromebook. Chromecast built-in functions will be activated through firmware updates starting this spring for select Onkyo gear. Click here for the full list.
