The studio responsible for the 'Tales' series is shutting down, but there's no indication yet that this will affect game production.
Even casual gamers will have heard of Japanese roleplaying games like 'Final Fantasy' and most are familiar with 'Chrono Trigger,' 'Secret of Mana' and maybe even 'Star Ocean.' It's a special kind of devoted fan that delves into the 'Tales' series though.
Those fans may be in for disappointment as the Namco Tales Studio has been shut down. The studio, founded in 2003, has been responsible for all of the 'Tales' games including the recent 'Tales of Xillia.' The move needs approval from Namco's board, but it's expected to go through without issue.
Though the studio is dissolving, there's been no official word on what this means for the long running 'Tales' series. What seems most likely is that the Tales Studio will exist within Namco Bandai instead of as a separate entity.
