EA looks committed to bringing back the franchise.
Electronic Arts looks committed to bringing back 'NBA Live' for this year in the form of 'NBA Live 14.' The franchise has had a troubled history for the whole of this century. Despite hailing from the 16-bit era, the franchise quickly became second string to 2K's 'NBA 2K' series. An attempted reboot in the form of 'NBA Elite' a few years ago was a fiasco, and other plans to come back as a downloadable value title last year were ultimately scrapped.
Instead, EA Sports has leveraged its Ignite engine and development time towards developing the first sports title built with only the next-gen Xbox One and PS4 in mind. Now with an "Actual Gameplay Footage" tag burned into each frame, EA has revealed gameplay footage and a launch date for the new title, which is as close to committing to actual launch as the franchise has been in years.
