360 owners can buy a 360 game season pass and receive an equivalent Xbox One season pass.
Some of the biggest titles of the upcoming holiday season are multi-generational and will appear on both the 360 and PS3 as well as the Xbox One and PS4. For the two Xbox platforms, five of those titles, including 'Call of Duty: Ghosts,' 'Madden NFL 25,' 'FIFA 14,' 'Battlefield 4,' and 'Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag' are already part of a $10 GameStop upgrade program. And now it seems that those same sort of titles are part of a Microsoft upgrade initiative.
For fans concerned about buying a season pass for an upcoming 360 game when the possibility exists of getting that same game for the Xbox One, Microsoft has a plan. From Microsoft, "Fans of Season Passes now have another reason to look forward to Xbox One with the Season Pass Guarantee program. With Season Pass Guarantee, you can purchase a Season Pass for a participating Xbox 360 title and automatically receive access to download the equivalent Xbox One Season Pass."
Specific titles for the Season Pass Guarantee program have not yet been announced, but Microsoft has alluded to some big titles. "Some of the biggest publishers, including Activision, Electronic Arts and Ubisoft, are lined up for the Season Pass Guarantee program, offering season pass content you can’t find anywhere else for blockbuster titles in 2013 and 2014. You’ll be able access exclusive season pass content on anticipated titles like “Call of Duty: Ghosts” and “Battlefield 4” on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One."
The lone caveat for the program beyond eligible titles seems altogether reasonable for interested parties. "Xbox Live members must own the same game on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One in order to receive Season Pass Guarantee benefits."
Further details for the program will be disclosed in the coming months.
