We don't know yet whether this is a trend that will continue.
When it comes to rental services like Redbox and Netflix, Disney has a history of being stress-free about the whole thing. The company is one of few that has shunned the release window, but it seems that they might be changing their tune.
It's not a massive delay, but Redbox won't be getting the newly released 'John Carter' until the 12th of June. More significantly, Express – formerly Blockbuster Express – kiosks won't see it until early July.
"We don’t believe that has changed," says analyst John Kraft. "Regardless, we believe John Carter represents the first ‘official’ windowed title."
Disney hasn't come out and spoken on the subject, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see a release window implemented, especially is the delay for 'John Carter' is deemed a success.
