Panels put together to discuss the threat IPTV may pose to the Blu-ray format came to a consensus: There is no threat.
According to the group that twice put together a bit of a panel to talk about the threat that IPTV poses to the Blu-ray format. There is no threat.
Rick Souder of Crutchfield puts it plainly “Anyone who makes it easier, faster and more customer-friendly to stream or download movies will accelerate the process. Until that happens,” he says “adoption will be steady but not game-changing.”
Some, such as Tom Galanis of Sixth Avenue Electronics and Jeannette Howe of Specialty Electronics Nationwide see each delivery system appealing to different customers, rather than competing for the same ones. “Baby boomers, particularly those not as computer savvy, enjoy owning retail products rather than virtual products,” says Jeanette “My mother will never download a movie.”
