Microsoft bringing a top-down twin stick shooter to Windows 8 devices.
There was a time when 'Halo' was so popular that its fan base might have followed it anywhere, even to a Windows 8 phone. Microsoft, 343 Industries, and Vanguard Games are hoping that enough of that powerful allure is still available to draw 'Halo' fans into the Windows 8 store in search of more 'Halo.'
'Halo: Spartan Assault' is a top-down shooter set between 'Halo 3' and 'Halo 4.' Players can use the twin virtual sticks of the touch screen to combat the Covenant in 'Robotron' style. With colorful environments, vehicles, and crazier than normal weapons, the game holds some promise. While the game is only being offered for Windows 8 devices, both keyboard and mouse, and controller support will be offered.
The combination of Microsoft's Windows 8 and Surface tablet is likely the ideal platform for this game. On some level though, the game is mobile title, built with Windows 8 phones in mind. Acquiring upgrades through grinding and through micro transactions are a big part of the game.
