Gabe Newell says Valve would shut down before selling out.
According to a recent report from the New York Times, EA has been courting Valve for some time now, offering the company a buyout of over a billion dollars. Valve has turned down all offers outright, and not just because a billion dollars is far too little considering the company’s three billion dollar worth.
Valve head Gabe Newell says that he would rather Valve be disintegrated than to see it sold. “It’s way more likely we would head in that direction than say, ‘Let’s find some giant company that wants to cash us out and wait two or three years to have our employment agreements terminate,” he says.
