Class up your home theater by adding an automated cabinet of your own.
Want to add that special touch to your home theater? Maybe you simply want to keep the TV out of the way until it's time to watch something. Whatever the reason, an automated TV lift cabinet is the solution. The downside is that buying one could end up costing you more than your TV and require that you use a premade cabinet instead of something you really like.
An Instructables user that goes by ihart has created a tutorial on how to create your own lift cabinet using simple materials and costing less than $1,000. Of that money, the lift itself makes up about half the cost.
The construction of the cabinet doesn't require a huge amount of woodworking knowledge, but you'll need access to a decent number of tools. You'll also need quite a bit of time - this isn't the kind of project you can knock out in an hour.
