Debut trailer unveils characters that are worlds apart.
Billed as "From Double Fine Productions and 90,000 of their closest friends" the world's introduction to the newly christened 'Broken Age' is more mysterious than illuminating.
The art style for 'Broken Age'is not disparate from cult classic 'Psychonauts' or the more recent 'The Cave' with a hard paper edge to each character design. Two lead characters form what looks to be different sides of the story. The young girl lives in a remote area with her family, and appears to be dreading an event wherein she becomes culinary attired in order to attract and be consumed by a monster. The young boy is isolated in space, but even in his companion-less state, seems to fear an eventual absorption into some kind of giant other thing.
'Broken Age' has been promised to be things ever since it ventured into a resoundingly successful Kickstarter campaign. First, the game will be a true point and click adventure game of the kind so long unseen in mainstream games as to have only been possible through crowdfunding. Yet, the second promised aspect is the evolutionary advance promised for that specific game genre. The game is meant to be a step forward from 'Grim Fandango.'
'Broken Age' is expected for the PC, Mac OS, iOS, Android and Linux platforms sometime this year.
