The debut of the Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee) teleports to Blu-ray in celebration of the franchise's 50th anniversary this August.
In an early announcement to retailers, BBC says 'Doctor Who: Spearhead from Space' will hit Blu-ray on August 13.
The Time Lords have banished the newly regenerated Doctor to Earth. But the Doctor isn’t the only alien to have arrived, as a swarm of meteorites have crashed into the sleepy English countryside, bringing with them a terrible new threat to mankind. As the Nestene plan takes shape, UNIT, the Doctor and his newly appointed scientific advisor, Liz Shaw, race against time to stop humanity being replaced by a terrifying plastic facsimile race.
For the Blu-ray release, the original 16mm negatives were scanned and digitized using state-of-the-art equipment. From there, further strides were made, including repairing damage done to one episode's negative caused by a reaction with chemicals during a printing process some years ago. Dirt has also been removed, grain lessened, joins cleaned up, and picture movement stabilized. The soundtrack, which had previously been remastered, was then added to the final master version.
Specs and supplements haven't been revealed yet, but the suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $29.98.
