Samsung's factory is just as impressive as you'd expect, but there are plenty of surprises along the way.
Manufacturing is a complex and fascinating process, especially when it comes to the making of something we really love. The folks over at Tom's Hardware took a tour through Samsung's LCD plant and came back with some very cool pictures and insights to share.
There's a lot of the stuff you'd expect. Everyone in the plant is wearing full body covering to prevent contamination and there are plenty of safety and quality measures in place. But there's a lot you might not expect.
For starters, the place is yellow. At least parts of it are. Certain wavelengths of light can mess with the LCD coating process, so Samsung filters them out.
The other thing that may catch you by surprise is the staff. When it comes to checking test patterns, color accuracy and picture quality, the entire section is manned by women between the ages of 18 and 22. Samsung says that after a lot of trial and error, they found that they're the best when it comes to discerning colors.
