'Call of Duty: Black Ops II Apocalypse' Releases Today for the Xbox 360

With next-generation transition looming, this may be the beginning of the end.

Today, Activision has released 'Call of Duty: Black Ops II Apocalypse,' marking the conclusion of the game's season pass program on the Xbox 360. The latest DLC pack is a mix of new multiplayer maps and new 'CoD Zombies' content.

From Activision, "'Origins' - the all-new, wildly creative Zombies experience that reunites players with the original heroes going back to Call of Duty®: World at War, and closes this chapter of the Zombies story arch for Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

"'Origins,' the most horrifying and imaginative Zombies experience to date. Players will be deployed to a Dieselpunk-stylized World War I-era France that brings back the four original heroes - Tank, Nikolai, Takeo, and Richtofen - from the very first Zombies map featured in Call of Duty: World at War, as well as hordes of zombies that have overrun the French countryside's trenches and fields, as well as the ruins of an ancient and mysterious location."

The new maps are called 'Pod,' 'Frost,' 'Takeoff,' and 'Dig.'

While this new DLC is still to come to the two other 'CoD' platforms, the PC and PS3, the franchise is a few months away from spreading to the Xbox One and PS4. With six platforms in play (including the Wii U), Activision is clearly concerned about fracturing the user base and has vowed to offer a $10 upgrade path for 360 and PS3 users. Nevertheless, with users facing platform changes, the potential for a substantial drop in users, as well as defection to competing franchises is as big as it has been since before the first 'Modern Warfare.'
