Buena Vista Home Entertainment today announced it will debut its first
two waves of Blu-ray disc releases beginning in September and, in an unforeseen
twist, will also include exclusive original short films shot in high-def on
select titles.
Arriving September 19, BVHE's first wave of four titles includes the family
hits '
Dinosaur'
and '
Eight Below,'
the Kevin Smith comedy '
Jay
and Silent Bob Strike Back' and '
The
Great Raid.'
'Dinosaur' and 'Eight Below' will also feature the studio's new "Blu-Scape"
high-def shorts, which are inspired by the film and shot by award-winning cinematographer
Louie Schwartzberg ('Erin Brockovich,' 'Any Given Sunday').
"The Blu-ray Disc represents a major technological breakthrough in our
industry, and just as DVD revolutionized home entertainment, the Blu-ray Disc
promises to deliver a new and unparalleled consumer experience," BVHE president
Bob Chapek said in a prepared statement. "The possibilities are endless,
and we've just begun to bridge the future of this exciting new paradigm."
A second wave of titles will follow on October 17, including '
Glory
Road,' '
Haunted
Mansion,' '
Gone
in 60 Seconds,' '
Dark
Water' and '
The
Brothers Grimm.' The first three will also include exclusive "Blu-Scape"
shorts.
Buena Vista has not yet announced full details on technical specs nor further
supplements. The studio said "most" of its first Blu-ray titles will
be priced at a suggested list of $34.95.
