The streaming set-top box is now $30 cheaper.
Apple has announced a price reduction for its Apple TV media player. The new suggested retail price is $69, bringing the price tag down $30 from the previous $99 MSRP.
The Apple TV is a set-top box that offers streaming media support for a variety of popular apps including Netflix, iTunes, Vimeo, YouTube, Hulu, NFL Now, and Showtime Anytime. In addition, users can stream content from mobile devices and computers to their Apple TVs as well. Finally, customers can also gain access to HBO's recently announced HBO NOW standalone streaming platform for $15 per month when the service launches in April.
Rumors of a new Apple TV model and an Apple branded streaming service have been swirling for the last few years, but the company has yet to officially announce a successor to the current device. The price reduction should go into effect soon, though at press time Amazon's listing still reflects the original MSRP.
