The image and media recognition feature is coming to Fire HD tablets.
Amazon is preparing an update that will add its Firefly search tool to the retailer's Fire HD line of tablets. Previously, the feature was only found on the company's Fire Phone and premium Fire HDX 8.9 model.
With the Firefly search feature customers can use their tablet's camera and microphone to scan, listen for, and identify over 100 million images, logos, bar codes, movies, TV shows, products, and songs. Once identified, the tool gives detailed information about the item along with Amazon purchasing options. We previously tested out Firefly in our full review of the Fire HDX 8.9 and found the tool to be very reliable and pretty handy.
The Firefly OTA update is now rolling out to Fire HD models like the Fire HD 7 and Fire HD 6 in the US, UK, and Germany.
