Cross-buy and cross-save.
At this point there can be very little doubt that Yacht Club Games has stepped out of the shadow of WayForward and directly into the limelight. With the Kickstarter-funded 'Shovel Knight' (review here), the dev has gone from Kickstarter, to the PC and Wii U and onto a full PlayStation roll-out (with a Xbox version not far off at all). The PlayStation versions include 'God of War' star Kratos and are both cross-buy and cross-save for the PS4, PS3, and Vita.
With today's release of the PlayStation versions of 'Shovel Knight,' it's a perfect time to look back at High-Def Digest's talk with Yacht Club Games' founders Sean Velasco and Nick Wozniak. This pair of cut-ups knew the kind of game they wanted to make, had been waiting to make, and now have made for millions to see. In the next two weeks, 'Shovel Knight' is like to at least double its player base. Oddly, enough, the charm may be obvious, a retro grade NES title to rival the 'Mega Man's and 'Castlevania's of yesteryear, but it's how the feel and design of the game has balanced out classic elements with a modern sensibility that keep players at it.
But don't take my word for it. 'Shovel Knight' is out now for $14.99.
