Coming this year.
Announced today, the new Xbox One S is a Slim version of the Xbox One that also happens to support 4K HDR, and yes, that includes Ultra HD Blu-ray playback.
And this is all at a price of $299 (for the 500GB version).
As arrayed below, the Xbox One S is now available to preorder with a ship date of August 2016.
The 500GB model is $299. The 1TB model is $349, and the 2TB model is $399. It's worth pointing out the system does support expansion via USB 3.0 connected hard drives.
At $299, and with a new controller, a 40% smaller footprint, 4K video, UHD Blu-ray, built-in power supply (no more brick!), built-in IR blaster, and select HDR game support, the Xbox One S 500GB is the model that will likely be hardest to get come release. 2TB is better for anyone wanting to avoid having a connected external hard drive enclosure.
The new controller uses a revised Bluetooth standard to get better range with a better overall connection.
