Produced on a micro budget of $4.8 million, the teen-friendly slasher-meets-‘Groundhog Day’ debuted to $26.5 million. Grossing almost twice as much as the #2 movie, it had no trouble locking in the top spot. The movie, which shares the same initials as this excellent site, also pulled $5 million from 11 international markets, bringing its worldwide opening to $31.5 million.

Once again, despite glowing reviews, ‘Blade Runner 2049‘ struggled to find an audience. Still playing on more than 4,000 screens, it fell 54% in attendance and only earned $15.1 million. The ten-day domestic total for this $150 million film is at $60.5 million. Its international box office is a little kinder. Foreign ticket sales are now up to $98 million, giving it a $158.5 million worldwide total. The sci-fi sequel has yet to open in a few major international markets. While it’s likely to perform well there, it’s still unlikely that the film will get to the estimated $450 million needed for Warner Bros. and Sony to break even.

Jackie Chan beats a lot of Irishman in his new movie. Following suit, the movie itself beat expectations. ‘The Foreigner‘ grossed $12.8 million in North America. Combined with the $88.4 million from overseas over the last two weeks, the $35 million political thriller has a $101.2 million worldwide total.

‘It‘ finished in fourth place with $6 million. After six week, it has made $314.9 million domestically and $315.7 million internationally, putting its worldwide total at $630.6 million.

Last week’s romantic survival drama ‘The Mountain Between Us‘ fell from second place with a 47% decline and rounded out the Top 5 with $5.4 million. After ten days, the $35 million Kate Winslet/Idris Elba vehicle has $20.5 million in North America and $9.7 million overseas.

Open Road’s Thurgood Marshall bio-pic opened right alongside pre-weekend expectations. Playing on 821 screens, ‘Marshall‘ finished at #11 with $3 million and a per-screen average of $3,702. The $12 million picture has yet to open outside of North America.

‘Professor Marston & the Wonder Women‘ had disastrous returns at 1,229 locations. Finishing at #14, the film barely scraped together $737,000, for a per-screen average of $600. That poor performance is low enough to rank it #18 in the “worst debuts for films opening on 1,000+ screens” list. The historical drama has yet to open overseas.

At the specialty box office, ‘Goodbye Christopher Robin‘ had a so-so debut. From nine locations, it made $55,800 and a per-screen average of $6,200. Fox Searchlight will expand the movie over the coming weeks.

Andy Serkis’ directorial debut opened about on par with ‘Goodbye Christopher Robin’. From four locations, ‘Breathe‘ took $26,254 and a per-screen average of $6,564. It’s also expected to expand in the coming weeks.

Top 10:

1. ‘Happy Death Day’ (Universal) – $26,500,000

2. ‘Blade Runner 2049’ (Warner Bros.) – $15,100,000

3. ‘The Foreigner’ (STX) – $12,840,000

4. ‘It’ (Warner Bros.) – $6,050,000

5. ‘The Mountain Between Us’ (Fox) – $5,650,000

6. ‘American Made’ (Universal) – $5,423,000

7. ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ (Fox) – $5,315,000

8. ‘The Lego Ninjago Movie’ (Warner Bros.) – $4,315,000

9. ‘My Little Pony: The Movie’ (Lionsgate) – $4,000,000

10. ‘Victoria and Abdul’ (Focus) – $3,115,000

Although ‘It’ is still in the Top 5, after six weeks, the film’s performance is starting to wind down.
