I can’t tell you the last time this happened, but three movies are in a dead heat for the top spot in the weekend box office charts. With estimates separating the three titles in contention by only $310,000, we won’t know exactly which will claim the victory until the actuals are announced later today.<\/p>\n
As of now, four-week-old ‘It<\/strong>‘ is in the lead with $17.3 million. If that holds, the film will return to the top position after one week losing to the ‘Kingsman’ sequel. With $291 million in domestic revenue and $262 million in foreign sales, the $35 million horror movie has officially crossed the $500 million milestone.<\/p>\n The second title battling for #1 is ‘American Made<\/strong>‘. With an estimated $17.01 million domestic debut, the film currently sits in second place, but that could easily change by the end of the day. The $50 million Tom Cruise vehicle has been playing overseas for a few weeks. To date, it has grossed $64.7 million internationally, for a worldwide total of $81.7 million.<\/p>\n Right on the heels of those two is ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle<\/strong>‘. Falling 56%, its sophomore weekend resulted in $17 million. Although the sequel’s opening was higher than that of the original ‘Kingsman’, its $66.7 million ten-day total is behind the $67.9 million the first one had at this point. Internationally, ‘The Golden Circle’ is still pacing very well. To date, the $104 million spy movie has drawn $126.2 million overseas, giving it a worldwide total of $192.9 million.<\/p>\n ‘The Lego Ninjago Movie<\/strong>‘ fell an expected 41%. In comparison to the previous two Lego movies, its $12 million second week is really low for the franchise. The film’s domestic ten-day total is at $35.5 million (which is less than the opening weekends of either ‘The Lego Movie’ or ‘Lego Batman’). Internationally, it’s up to $22.7 million, giving it a $58.2 million worldwide draw.<\/p>\n The remake\/sequel of ‘Flatliners<\/strong>‘ rounded out the Top 5 with $6.7 million, which isn’t exactly dead on arrival, but its vitals are undeniably weak. The movie made $3.1 million from 21 international markets. With a price tag of $19 million, a $9.8 million worldwide debut is very poor.<\/p>\n On the other hand, the thriller ‘Til Death Do Us Part<\/strong>‘ did<\/em> have a DOA debut. Finishing at #9, it only made $1.5 million. Faith-based ‘A Question of Faith<\/strong>‘ performed even worse. Opening in 11th place, the $1 million opening made a poor $1,589 per-screen debut.<\/p>\n From five locations, the concert film ‘Pearl Jam: Let’s Play Two<\/strong>‘ earned a solid $55,274 and a per-screen average of $11,055.
