Disney just can’t be stopped. Not only did ‘The Jungle Book’ stay at the top of the box office and devour Universal’s ‘Snow White’ spinoff, but ‘Zootopia’ crossed a huge milestone that ‘Jungle Book’ is also on track to hit.
\n<\/p>\n

The live action remake of ‘The Jungle Book<\/strong>‘ retained its #1 position by only falling 41% in its second week. With another $60.8 million, the film has grossed $191.4 million domestically over the last ten days. With another $175 million from overseas, it has a worldwide tally of $528.4 million.<\/p>\n

The only new wide release of the weekend, the $115 million prequel\/sequel to ‘Snow White and the Huntsman<\/a>‘, was only able to do 1\/3 of the business the original did. ‘The Huntsman: Winter’s War<\/strong>‘ debuted to $20 million, while ‘Snow White’ opened to $56.2 million in 2012. ‘Winter’s War’ got a head start internationally, where it has pulled $80.2 million to date. If the international success keeps up, this might be one of those cases where the overseas numbers alone make the movie a financial hit. That will be critical for the studio because the movie is already doomed as a domestic flop.<\/p>\n

‘Barbershop: The Next Cut<\/strong>‘ held over quite well in its second week. The sequel’s 46% decline resulted in $10.8 million and a third-place finish. Its ten-day total sits at $36 million.<\/p>\n

While ‘Zootopia<\/strong>‘ finished in the #5 spot last week, it rose back up to #4 this week (its eighth) with its smallest week-over-week decline yet. Slipping a slight 19%, it collected another $6.6 million. The film’s domestic total now is now up to $316.4 million, but the worldwide total is even more notable. Thanks to the continued overseas success, ‘Zootopia’ has a global total of $907.1 million.<\/p>\n

Melissa McCarthy’s ‘The Boss<\/strong>‘ may have been hit hard in its second week, but its third week slowed down to a 39% drop. The additional $6 million brings the R-rated comedy’s domestic box office up to $49.5 million.<\/p>\n

The Lionsgate-distributed comedy from Mexico, ‘Compadres<\/strong>‘, had unexpected success from 368 locations. It opened in the #9 spot with $1.3 million.<\/p>\n

The weekend’s bigger limited releases had a difficult time making traction with moviegoers.<\/p>\n

Tom Hanks’ latest fish-out-of-water drama ‘A Hologram for the King<\/strong>‘ earned $1.2 million from 401 screens, giving it a per-screen average of $3,010. From 381 screens, ‘Elvis & Nixon<\/strong>‘ only scored $456,793 and a per-screen average of $1,199.<\/p>\n

Debut numbers for the Nina Simone bio-pic ‘Nina’ have yet to be announced.<\/p>\n
