Marvel’s potty-mouthed superhero is still kicking ass at the box office, which has thrown a wrench in the studio’s plans for a quick Blu-ray turnaround. Although we don’t yet have an official release date, at least we do know that the movie will get a nice SteelBook edition whenever it comes. Also clad in metal: some little movie about wars in the stars.

UK retailer Zavvi was the first to announce a ‘Deadpool’ SteelBook, but the title sold out quickly and the listing has since been pulled from the web site. If you weren’t fortunate enough to get a preorder in, it turns out that the Steelbook will also be sold in the United States as a Best Buy exclusive.<\/p>\n

The images below are the artwork that Zavvi announced. At present, the Best Buy web site doesn’t display any cover art, so there’s a chance that the American copy might feature a different design. However, that seems unlikely to me. This same art is being used in other countries, such as this SteelBook from France<\/a>. I’d bank on the same design being used worldwide. In fact, I really hope that’s the case, because I think this looks pretty great. <\/p>\n

In comparison to the above, the ‘Force Awakens’ SteelBook is kind of lame and uninspired. It looks like a Photoshop beginner’s first attempt. The image of Kylo Ren on the front isn’t very exciting, and how does a character with negligible screen time in the movie get featured on the back? Even assuming that Disney didn’t want to pay for the actors’ likeness rights to feature any of the movie’s real stars, I’m sure that somebody could have come up with a more clever design than this if they’d put some effort into it.<\/p>\n

This one is also a Best Buy exclusive in North America. Zavvi will carry essentially the same case in the UK<\/a>, except without any mention of the movie’s title in the artwork (a trend that I really hate, personally).<\/p>\n
