This debut is especially strong when you consider that the film was estimated to open around $40 million. Overseas, the impact was even stronger. In 60 markets, it scored another $60 million, giving the $110 million disaster movie a $113.2 million worldwide debut.

In its third week, the already-successful comedy ‘Pitch Perfect 2‘ added another $14.3 million to its run. The $29 million musical now sits with a 17-day domestic total of $147.5 million. As if that wasn’t good enough, $80 million internationally brings it to a worldwide sitting total of $228.2 million – over $112 million more than the original ‘Pitch Perfect’ pulled in during the lifetime of its global theatrical run.

With a 58% drop in attendance, ‘Tomorrowland‘ was quickly dethroned in its second week and pitch-slapped down to the #3 spot. $13.8 million moved its ten-day total up to $63.1 million. The disappointment continued overseas, where the movie now sits with just $70 million. Its 10-day worldwide gross of $133.1 million is nowhere near what’s needed to make this $190 million picture a success.

Three weeks in, ‘Mad Max: Fury Road‘ slipped a mild 44% in attendance and added another $13.6 million to its domestic haul, which now sits at $115.9 million. Internationally, it has drawn in $165 million, giving it a 17-day worldwide run of $280.9 million.

Rounding out the Top 5, once again, was ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron‘. The $10.9 million fifth weekend pushed its domestic total up to $427 million. Globally, it’s up to $1.32 billion.

Cameron Crowe’s latest character-driven dramedy, ‘Aloha‘, didn’t fare so well in its opening weekend. Although it debuted to more than Crowe’s last picture (the PG-rated ‘We Bought a Zoo‘, which opened with $9.3 million), things aren’t looking good for Sony’s $37 million production.

Weekend estimates have not yet been released for the notable limited releases ‘Results’ or ‘Gemma Bovery’.

Top 10:

1. ‘San Andreas’ (Warner Bros.) – $53,215,000

2. ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ (Universal) – $14,381,000

3. ‘Tomorrowland’ (Buena Vista) – $13,803,000

4. ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ (Warner Bros.) – $13,625,000

5. ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ (Buena Vista) – $10,920,000

6. ‘Aloha’ (Sony) – $10,000,000

7. ‘Poltergeist’ (Fox) – $7,800,000

8. ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’ (Fox Searchlight) – $1,420,000

9. ‘Hot Pursuit’ (Warner Bros.) – $1,370,000

10. ‘Home’ (Fox) – $1,150,000

Did you smell what The Rock was cooking?
