Then, more importantly, Crystal Dynamics oversaw a visual retouching of the game for the two new consoles, including a different Lara model (in-game asset-wise), new lighting and weather FX, and other eye-candy touches. Since the game, a reboot of ‘Tomb Raider’ with ‘Uncharted’ cinema and gameplay stylings, is enjoyable (if unfortunately gritty and brutally violent), and since the new consoles are shy of new releases, this $60 reissue should be another hit despite not having any new content.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch (PC)

‘Octodad’ is a physics simulator that – through the funny convention having an octopus masquerading as a normal guy – makes for fun, challenging and humorous gameplay. It’s kind of like that killer whale stand-in on the ‘Robot Chicken’ version of ‘Alias’ (“Whalias”). Players control Octodad in ‘Dadliest Catch‘ as he tries to get ready for his daughter’s wedding without his gangly tentacles causing a spectacle, such as knocking down the floral arrangements. The game is due out on the PS4 at some point, and the DualShock4’s triggers make for great leg controls.

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z (360, PS3, PSN for PS Vita)

After a brief hiatus, the ‘Dragon Ball Z’ game franchise returns. This time, ‘Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z‘ supports 4v4 battles that can feature multiple versions of the same characters. Thus, Namco Bandai (or Bandai Namco, as it’s now called) is touting the idea of “dream team” matches. The brawling fun and over-the-top art style make this a must-have for ‘Dragonball’ fans.

The Firemen 2: Pete & Danny (PSone Classic for PS3, PS Vita, and PSP)

A classic import ‘The Firemen 2: Pete & Danny’ tells the story of two self-sufficient fireman (think ‘Judge Dredd’) who are tasked with executing their fire-fighting duties at an amusement park turned inferno. How Michael Crichton was not involved in this game, we’ll never know, but it looks like a blast.

Another week into 2014 brings us a re-release for one game not even a year old, plus one more that’s nearly 20-years-old.
