{"id":47423,"date":"2013-02-27T12:00:11","date_gmt":"2013-02-27T20:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.highdefdigest.com\/blog\/?p=47423"},"modified":"2018-04-10T10:14:55","modified_gmt":"2018-04-10T17:14:55","slug":"trailers-upside-mud-anyways","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.highdefdigest.com\/blog\/trailers-upside-mud-anyways\/","title":{"rendered":"The Trailer Park: The Weird &amp; the Beautiful"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week&#8217;s batch of trailers features a trio of movies that look both pretty and strange.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h5>&#8216;Laurence Anyways&#8217;<\/h5>\n<p>Gus Van Sant serves as producer to a film that feels very much like a Gus Van Sant movie, but actually comes from Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan. I&#8217;m partly interested because the preview functions weirdly like a music video for Visage&#8217;s &#8220;Fade to Grey.&#8221; I&#8217;m also curious because the story is about a transgender person and the many problems that person encounters. At the moment, the movie is making the rounds through the festival circuit. I doubt that I&#8217;ll have chance to watch it in theaters, but I&#8217;ll keep an eye out for it on Blu-ray.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AwKZ9TjVnL8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h5>&#8216;Mud&#8217;<\/h5>\n<p>With a love for Southern Gothic stories that traces way back, I&#8217;m really looking forward to this latest thriller from Jeff Nichols, the genius behind the splendid &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/bluray.highdefdigest.com\/6240\/take_shelter.html\">Take Shelter<\/a>&#8216;. The plot sounds like something conceived by Cormac McCarthy, but the style and theme feel like a cross between William Faulkner and Flannery O&#8217;Connor. Matthew McConaughey is very suave in his gentlemanly composure and intelligence, a romantic figure fallen from grace who feels scary and threatening. If the film lives up to its trailer, which I love, then I&#8217;ll be a happy camper. <\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=u0xgDP8V6l8&#038;feature=em-uploademail<\/p>\n<h5>&#8216;Upside Down&#8217;<\/h5>\n<p>It seems like some kind of popular sci-fi trend right now to imagine an existence with two worlds. Both &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/bluray.highdefdigest.com\/6277\/melancholia.html\">Melancholia<\/a>&#8216; and &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/bluray.highdefdigest.com\/5875\/another_earth.html\">Another Earth<\/a>&#8216; did that recently. This trailer really plays up the love and romance angle of the plot. The movie marks the American debut of Latin-American filmmaker Juan Solanas, but I&#8217;m really intrigued by the concept and production design, which appear to take some inspiration from King Vidor&#8217;s &#8216;The Crowd&#8217;.
