With Ronan’s ‘Atonement‘ director Joe Wright at the helm, the movie is said to be very stylish and exciting. I still need to check this one out.

Not much else on the list catches my eye, except perhaps the Stephen King cheesefest ‘Children of the Corn‘. This is not a good movie at all, and I would never personally want to own a copy, but its dumb campy thrills might be good for a rental when the mood strikes.

Josh’s Random VUDU Pick:

This week’s random pick isn’t really all that random. What with so many of their early classics being released on Blu-ray lately, I’ve still got the Coen brothers on my mind. Last week, I recommended their surreal farce ‘The Hudsucker Proxy’. This time, I’m going for ‘Barton Fink‘, the movie that won the brothers the Palme d’Or at Cannes.

I don’t necessarily agree that this is one of their best films, or that it deserved to win top prize that year, but it’s an interesting and frequently very funny movie about a wannabe screenwriter (John Turturro) driven to the brink of madness by a really bad case of writer’s block. I honestly can’t think of any other directors who could make the prospect of watching wallpaper peel so compelling. It’s a mystery to me why Fox didn’t release this one on Blu-ray along with the other Coen titles in its catalog.

I promise that next week I’ll get off the Coen theme and pull something else out of the VUDU archive.

All dates provided refer specifically to rental availability.
