Videogame Releases: Week of April 13th, 2014

One of gaming’s biggest franchises comes to the PS4, while World Cup fever starts in earnest. Come see it all in this week’s videogame releases.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (PS4)

Amazingly, Square Enix has gone from the lumbering disappointment of the ‘Final Fantasy XIV’ MMO, to ‘Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn‘. This relaunched (and popular) version of the original title comes to the PS4 as cross compatible with players on the PC and PS3. PS3 owners of the game can even upgrade to the PS4 version for free.

Trials Fusion (Xbox One , PS4, XBLA for 360, PC)

Trials Fusion‘ is the latest iteration of the hyper-exaggerated motocross series, and the first to jump to the PS4 and Xbox One. Ubisoft promises first-in-class physics and social features to make pulling off all of those tricks even more worthwhile.

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil (360, PS3)

I’m not a big ‘FIFA’ fan, but ‘2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil‘ really gets me excited for the World Cup. The game looks to be the best way to get a deeper understanding of the world-consuming tournament short of learning a new language, and I think EA is a little remiss in not offering PS4 or Xbox One versions.

Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars (Vita)

Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars‘ is a Japanese RPG complete with dungeons, long summoning animations and impractical attire. Beyond battling monsters, players must bond with other characters to conceive other good guys. I think the subtitle would have been better as “Don’t knock it until you try it.”

I was so burned by Final Fantasy XI that I don’t even want to try another online Square game.

Conception 2 looks interesting, but I don’t have a Vita.

    • I love that FFXIV supports cross platform play, gets the free PS3 to PS4 upgrade, and supports mouse + keyboard. I’d still rather play any other FF over XI and XIV. I was really unfamiliar with the Trials series but It’s apparently awesome. Of course you could always get started on collecting those Mithril bricks in ‘Lego The Hobbit.’

Trials would have been somehting that would have interested me back in my college days. My tastes have changed over time. Trials looks like something that I may be interested in renting, but I don’t see myself buying it.

You know what I would love to see? Maybe 2014 Quidditch World Cup for the PS4 / XBone. That game was awesome! I still play it!
