Unlike the last set of trailers we recently had for movies about adults acting like childish fools, these next two look much more promising. First, we catch up with some old friends at a high school reunion. Then, Roman Polanski reveals his comedic side.

‘American Reunion’

Just when you thought the ‘American Pie’ series was forever stuck in straight-to-video hell, the original gang returns for one more, raunchy blow-out. Although the makers are actually a couple years too late (the first ‘Pie’ movie was released 12 years ago), this high school reunion looks like it aims to please. Based on the trailer, it looks like a good time, or at least a decently amusing get-together. But it’s difficult to tell if this will really be a total blast or not. Still, any attempt to make us forget the asinine ‘American Pie Presents’ crapfests can’t be all bad, right? I’ve never honestly been a big fan of this franchise, but I admit to enjoying the first three movies as the easy distractions they were always meant to be. I’ll watch this for sure.

‘Carnage’

The name Roman Polanski is often associated with dark psychological thrillers, but those who follow his films know that there’s also a lighter, yet still cynical side to his canon. The newest release from the renowned director clearly demonstrates this and looks like loads of fun. This is one of those very rare times when a preview really has me excited to watch the movie. Shockingly, it’s an adaptation of the play ‘God of Carnage’ from French playwright Yasmina Reza. When it comes to our children, adults can behave in the oddest ways, but this story takes it a step further by having the two sets of parents confront their own insecurities while touching some controversial hot topics. I can’t wait to see this!
