The Incredibles

Poll: Favorite Pixar Movie

With the release of the long-awaited ‘Incredibles’ sequel, let’s take a moment to look over the entire slate of Pixar feature films to date and decide which one we enjoy the most. The studio has certainly given us a lot to choose from.

We actually ran a similar poll back in 2011, but Pixar has cranked out nine more movies since then, most of them widely acclaimed and popular. Despite a couple of disappointments (‘Cars 2’, ‘Brave’), one box office flop (‘The Good Dinosaur’), and the fall from grace of Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter, the studio still has one of the strongest track records in all of Hollywood.

For this poll, I’m forcing you to choose your #1 favorite Pixar movie. You must select only one option.

The last time we did this, ‘The Incredibles’ and ‘WALL-E’ tied for first place. I expect that ‘The Incredibles’ may take the lead again here, and it’s probably my instinct to choose that one as well. The more I think about it, however, the more I want to go to bat for ‘Ratatouille’. Although a box office hit and an Oscar winner in its day, the film is often overlooked within the Pixar catalog. It has a very sweet story and I still hold it up as one of the best illustrations of the dynamic between an artist and a critic.

‘Inside Out’ also hit me really hard in the feels.

Monsters Inc. is still my favorite but I would also say that I agree Ratatouille may be the most underated as it stands near the top with the usual suspects.

I haven’t picked yet, but it will be between Toy Story, The Incredibles, Monsters, Inc., or Up. For the record, I really love Brave and I just rewatched The Good Dinosaur two days ago and think it is a very solid movie that deserves a bigger audience. I tend not to like the Pixar sequels as much, except for Toy Story 3. I’ll wait to vote until I watch the Incredibles sequel.

I picked Wall-E but Inside Out was right up there. Wall-E had a magic to it that most of the others missed and Inside Out was surprisingly mature in it’s themes.

Although there has been a lot of great output since then, one really need not go beyond the feature that started it all—Toy Story—or at least its trilogy. I also have a big soft spot for Cars, Cars 3, and WALL·E.

I love how the poll ranker knows to put Cars 2 last, even though it’s in a 4 way tie (right now) with 0 votes.

I think it is important to note that Disney Animation vastly improved after Disney bought Pixar. Pixar’s Lasseter became the head of Disney Animation, and the philosophy and process from Pixar was adopted by Disney Animation.

If we were shown that hopping light animated Pixar logo before Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero 6, Frozen, Zootopia; we would think Pixar had another winner.
