'Fez' Finally Comes Out April 13th
Thu Mar 29, 2012 at 01:30 PM ETTags: FEZ, Xbox 360, XBLA (all tags)
The indie game that fans have been salivating for over the last several years is finally coming out!
The game 'Fez' is absolutely brilliant conceptually. It's a 2D platformer that requires you to move things in 3D to create new 2D paths... look, just check out the video. 'Super Paper Mario' meets 'Echochrome' in a weird way. It's an exciting idea and it's been in the works for quite some time. Originally announced back in 2009, 'Fez' still hasn't seen a release.
On April 13th, the day finally comes. 'Fez' will be released on the Xbox Live Arcade at a price of 800 Microsoft Points, or $10 in real money. Since the game was made entirely with Microsoft's XNA game creation suite, don't expect to see it hit PSN any time soon.

Study Shows XBLA Games are Getting More Expensive while Review Scores are Dropping
Mon Feb 06, 2012 at 12:30 PM ETTags: Summer of Arcade, Braid, Bastion, Castle Crashers, XBLA, Xbox Live Arcade (all tags)
A study by XBLA Fans has revealed a disappointing trend in Xbox Live Arcade Games.
The Xbox Live Arcade is a great source of inexpensive but awesome games. You can get ahold of titles like 'Bastion,' 'Castle Crashers,' and 'Braid' along with classics like the newly released 'Simpsons Arcade Game' without having to shell out the $60 a new retail game would cost.
According to the website XBLA Fans, however, the Live Arcade has been slowly getting worse. Prices are going up, while game quality has been decreasing. Take the yearly Summer of Arcade for example. In 2008 we got 'Braid,' 'Castle Crashers,' and 'Bionic Commando: Rearmed,' along with a few other titles. The average Metacritic score came out to 84.8 and the average price was 960.
Compare that to 2011, which had the lowest average Metacritic score at 78.8. It also had the second highest price average, at 1120.
Obviously, there's a lot more to consider than that number, but you can read the rest in a four part series over at XBLA Fans.

'The Simpsons Arcade Game' is Coming to the Xbox 360 Tomorrow
Thu Feb 02, 2012 at 12:30 PM ETTags: The Simpsons Arcade Game, XBLA, Xbox 360 (all tags)
A Friday release is a bit strange, but you know what they say about gift horses and their mouths.
Friday is the big day for Xbox owners. 'The Simpsons Arcade Game' is finally going to be available. It's an odd day for a release, but just in time to enjoy it all weekend.
'The Simpsons Arcade Game' is easily the beat-em-up that's most asked for by console owners. It's well earned , of course. Not only was the game crazy good, it was only released on PC DOS and the Commodore 64.
So come Friday, Xbox 360 owners can catch up with the folks on PS3 who have had the game for a few days. It's the kind of game where you can invite some friends over and play all weekend. Except Sunday - apparently there's some sort of football contest happening.

PlayStation Plus Members Get 'The Simpsons Arcade Game' Free on February 7th
Wed Feb 01, 2012 at 10:30 AM ETTags: The Simpsons Arcade Game, XBLA, PSN, PlayStation Plus (all tags)
This news also means, of course, that 'The Simpsons Arcade Game' is coming out February 7th.
For whatever reason, folks have been keeping quiet about the release of 'The Simpsons Arcade Game.' There haven't been official announcements or trailers and all the information we've gotten up until now we've had to glean from ESRB ratings and the like.
As it turns out, 'The Simpsons Arcade Game' is just around the corner. It's coming free to PlayStation Plus members on the 7th. We can only assume that this news means 'The Simpsons Arcade Game' will be available to everyone else on the same day as well.
There's no word yet on an XBLA version of the game. We know it's been rated and that means that in all likelihood it will be coming, but at this point we don't know when.

'Fez' Rated for XBLA - One Step Closer to Release
Fri Dec 30, 2011 at 11:30 AM ETTags: FEZ, XBLA, Indie Games (all tags)
We've been waiting a long time for 'Fez,' but it looks like we won't have to wait too much longer.
If you've never heard of 'Fez,' it's high time you did. It's a 2D side scroller that allows you to rotate the world in 3D as a means of creating new avenues for you to travel. Yeah, it's a bit hard to explain - just watch the video.
'Fez' has been in development for quite some time and practically everyone with a penchant for creative indie games has been looking forward to it just as long. As it turns out, despite a significant delay last year, the game may finally be seeing the light of day.
'Fez' was just rated by the PEGI - Europe's ESRB - which means that a complete or nearly complete game must be in hand. We're hoping sooner rather than later, but creator Phil Fish puts the current release date as, simply, 2012.
