Westinghouse Explains Its TV Making Philosophy

"We give the consumers what they need. Nothing more and nothing less."

The folks at Westinghouse sent around an interesting video today featuring Doug Woo, the company president, explaining the philosophy behind Westinghouse televisions. You might not be surprised, but Westinghouse is focused on practicality and affordability.

"Everyone really deserves to have the latest technology," he says. "If you load everything in to make the price not-affordable to get the latest technology, we don't think that's fair."

Woo seems to think of Westinghouse televisions in the same way that most home theater buffs do. They're not going to compare to the latest models from Samsung and Sony, but they're decent enough for someone who just needs a TV. Check out the full video at the link below.

Westinghouse Debuting Personal 3D Viewer at CES

The glasses-style viewing solution is an interesting step forward for 3D.

While other companies are working on the active and passive debate, Westinghouse has a pair of glasses that's decidedly different. Their new personal media viewer prototype is the first to bring 3D into the mix.

If you aren't familiar with personal media viewers, they look a bit like the glasses Geordi La Forge wears, but instead of allowing the blind to see, they allow you to watch movies in total privacy.

Westinghouse says the new prototype – which debuts at CES next month – uses technology originally developed for the US Army to provide the widest field of view ever on a personal media viewer.

We'll certainly be interested to find out more, and hopefully get a hands on with the device at the Consumer Electronics Show next month.

Westinghouse Ships 42” 120Hz 1080p LCD for Only $750

Westinghouse has announced that they are now shipping their new sets, which feature a 120Hz refresh rate, at an unheard of $750.

Keeping in mind that Westinghouse isn’t a brand that leaps to mind in a conversation about quality and HDTVs, the release of their new TX-42F970Z is still fairly significant. When any technology gets filtered down to the economy brands, it can be seen as a fairly good indicator that not only do people want it, but it’s here to stay.

Ray Roque, the VP of Marketing at Westinghouse speaks highly of the new set. “LCD has clearly become the HDTV technology of choice for the majority of consumers in the U.S.” he says. “ Westinghouse is working to bring high-end, advanced HDTVs to all consumers at the most affordable price points possible.”

The TX-42F970Z also features a 4ms response time, a 4,000:1 contrast ratio, and four HDMI inputs.
