WD’s New Streaming Box Comes in at $70

The WD TV Play does everything you’d expect a streaming box at that price point to do, making it a direct competitor of Roku.

WD has always been a contender when it comes to set-top boxes, and while they’ve never been number one, they’ve always offered something different than the norm. The WD TV Play is a bit of a change, in that it doesn’t seem to do anything that Roku’s players don’t. It does fit into a nice price point though, at just $70.

WD TV Play handles Hulu, Facebook, Netflix, Spotify and the rest of the usual suspects as well as whatever media you have on DLNA compatible devices. iOS and Android users will soon be able to control the WD TV Play with their phones and tablets, though there’s no word yet on an exact launch date for control apps.

In addition to the two biggies, WD added AccuWeather, Flingo and Deezer

The WD TV Live and WD TV Live Plus media players are among the best out there, and offer some amazing capabilities when dealing with your digital media collection. They've lagged behind a bit when it comes to new streaming services though, and the new update addresses that.

Western Digital has added Blockbuster on Demand to their devices for those that demand their downloads on the same day as Blu-ray release. The company has also announced the inclusion of Flingo, which offers free streaming television.

WD TV Live owners will also get access to Facebook, an on-demand music service called Deezer, and AccuWeather forecasting. The device has also been updated to support USB wireless keyboards – something that's sure to be welcomed by users.

WD Live Hub is a NAS and Streamer in One

It's cheap to boot, at only $199.

WD seems to be low on the list when it comes to hype for streaming devices, but the company makes a slew of impressive products that just plain work. The latest is the WD TV Live Hub, and it's incredibly cool.

You won't be too surprised by its playback abilities – the Live Hub can play back a variety of video formats including AVI, MKV and MP4 as well as stream content from Netflix, YouTube, and Pandora. It's the usual stuff in terms of playing content, but where it gets really interesting is that the WD Live Hub is an NAS as well.

If you've got an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 in the house you can stream your video from the WD Live Hub to your system. If you've got an iPhone, iPad or Android phone you can do the same. It's a slick two-in-one.

The WD Live Hub comes with a full terabyte of storage space and is available now at $199.

Western Digital Offers Up the WD TV Live Plus Media Player

HD video, NAS compatibility and Netflix streaming all in one set-top box.

The WD TV Live Plus is a nice set-top box, especially if you've got a large digital media collection. It hooks in to your network and grabs files from computers and network attached storage devices, playing them back with ease.

It also connects to plenty of online video streaming services. Netflix is on the list, as are YouTube and the Media Fly Network. If you're looking for music, you'll also have access to Pandora, and Live 365 internet radio.

And of course, you can attach all the storage you'd like via a pair of USB ports, though the Live Plus doesn't have any storage of its own.

The one real downside to the WD TV Live Plus is the cost. It's not too terribly expensive at $149, but you'll have to shell out a bit more if you want WiFi, since the adapter is sold separately.
