TiVo Renames Premiere Lineup – Products Remain the Same
Mon Apr 23, 2012 at 02:00 PM ETTags: TiVo Premiere, Rebranding, TiVo (all tags)
Instead of the Premiere XL and Premiere Elite, they're called the XL2 and XL4.
First you had to get used to saying Istanbul instead of Constantinople and now this. TiVo has renamed the Premiere XL and Premiere Elite to the Premiere XL2 and Premiere XL4 respectively. The numbers, of course, refer to the amount of tuners built in to the device.
According to Engadget's Daniel Cooper, the renaming is an effort from TiVo to avoid confusion in its product lineup. Renaming the Premiere Elite makes sense enough, but calling the Premiere XL the Premiere XL2 isn't exactly straightforward.

New YouTube and Netflix Apps for TiVo Premiere Coming in Spring Update – Xfinity Rollout Begins
Thu Apr 05, 2012 at 10:00 AM ETTags: TiVo, TiVo Premiere, Comcast, XFINITY (all tags)
And according to VP Margaret Schmidt, we'll be seeing that update sometime this month.
In a recent Tweet, TiVo VP of User Experience Margaret Schmidt said that she's expecting to see the spring update to hit Premiere and Premiere Elite TiVo boxes by the end of April.
Included in the new update will be a new YouTube app created by the folks at Google and a Netflix app made by Netflix. You'll also find new parental controls available in HD menus – quite a bit less exciting than the streaming options.
If you're a Comcast Xfinity subscriber, you'll be happy to know that the Xfinity On Demand rollout is beginning, starting with San Francisco. DVRs in the area will be updated to support the service before its turned on later this month.

TiVo Premieres Get Multi-Room Streaming and More in New Update
Mon Jan 23, 2012 at 02:00 PM ETTags: TiVo, TiVo Premiere, Firmware Updates, Multi-Room DVR (all tags)
You'll also find user interface tweaks and search improvements across the board.
Some lucky users have had the latest update to the TiVo Premiere for a while, but they can't lord it over you anymore - the update has gone live for all TiVo users.
Update 20.2 brings plenty to the table for Premiere, Premiere XL and Premiere Elite boxes, but first and foremost is a nice facelift. Both the Grid Guide and Live Guide are finally in HD. They now also feature a picture-in-picture view of the show you're watching in the upper right hand corner. Search has also been improved and now includes selections from Netflix, Amazon, Blockbuster and Hulu Plus.
The really big news though is the option of multi-room streaming, which TiVo doesn't really highlight as much as they should. If you have two Premiere boxes on the same network, you can stream a show directly from one to the other - no need to transfer.

TiVo Adds Pandora to the Premiere
Wed Sep 22, 2010 at 12:00 PM ETTags: TiVo Premiere, Pandora (all tags)
The music streaming service is available now, and for free.
If your parents taught you anything, it's that you shouldn't watch TV while you're eating dinner. Thanks to the addition of Pandora though, you can still utilize your home theater system while avoiding bad manners.
The streaming service is available now for the TiVo Premiere and TiVo Premiere XL, nicely rounding out the music streaming side of the system. Pandora fits in nicely with Live 365 and Rhapsody – already available to TiVo users.
So next time you're having a classy dinner party you can feel free to turn on the idiot box and scroll over to Pandora to put on some background music. Bonus points if you throw on a Paganini mix while yelling out "Ooh, thems my jams!"
