'XCOM' Delayed by a Year

At this point, the game is expected sometime between mid 2013 and 2014.

Take-Two delivered a financial report yesterday and revealed a few interesting things. In between the sales figures and other tidbits, the company also announced a significant delay for 'XCOM.' Instead of coming out before March of 2013, it's now expected anywhere between April of 2013 and March of 2014. That's a pretty hefty release window.

Fans of the old-school turn based strategy game 'XCOM' haven't exactly been thrilled to see the title turned into an FPS. To those folks, this is almost certainly welcome. To everyone who never played XCOM, well, it's probably not even a blip on the radar.

'XCOM' Gets Pushed Back a Few Months

The date move is to make room for 'Max Payne 3.'

The controversial reboot of 'XCOM' as a first person shooter was supposed to be hitting shelves and potentially enraging fans in March of 2012 but it looks like that's not happening anymore. Take-Two announced that 'XCOM' is being bumped back to fiscal year 2013, which apparently starts in April of 2012.

The change comes from a desire to avoid cannibalizing sales of 'Max Payne 3,' or more likely to prevent 'Max Payne' from completely burying 'XCOM.' Take-Two hasn't announced an official release date yet, but we're guessing a month or so after 'Max Payne.'
