The Boxee Box Gets Spotify Streaming

You'll need to be a Premium subscriber to use it though.

Spotify has been getting a lot of love since it launched here in the U.S. As a music streaming service it's top of the line, and different receiver and smartphone makers have been rushing to get an app added to their devices.

The Boxee Box is the latest to add Spotify - the free app is available now - and the company is clearly stoked to include the service. As Andrew Kippen writes on the blog, "After a week with the Premium subscription, I deleted all the other music on my phone and now just use Spotify."

There are two bits of disappointing news however. First, Boxee software users don't get the added Spotify love, only Boxee Box users. Second, you need to be a Premium subscriber to use the service on your Boxee Box.

Facebook Will Introduce New Media Sharing Integration

Spotify, Netflix and more will be linkable and playable directly through Facebook.

One of the really nice things about Facebook is the way it plays so friendly with YouTube. Just copy and paste the address of the YouTube video and bam - you've got an embedded video that any of your friends can look at and play.

The newest update to Facebook is going to make it possible to do that same thing with Spotify, Netflix, Dailymotion, Blockbuster and other media services in addition to cooking sites, exercise sites and more.

Check out the video from Facebook for a quick overview and the video from Spotify for a slightly more in depth take on what's going on.

On a disappointing note, Netflix is still up in the air for customers in the US, since there's a bit of confusion on the legality.

Onkyo Adds and Expands Online Music Support for 2011 Receivers

You'll find a service called AUPEO!, Spotify, and expanded support for Last.fm.

It's easy to think of your home theater as something that's used for watching movies and not much else, but depending on your setup it can be an impressive music player too. The folks over at Onkyo have added quite a bit of new functionality to their 2011 receiver lineup that makes it even easier to enjoy the music you love and find more artists to enjoy.

AUPEO! is a new addition to all 2011 receivers. It may not be as familiar a name as Last.fm and Spotify, but the service offers 120 specialized music channels, custom made channels, artist specific channels and a Mood Selector that matches music to suit your mood.

Spotify is new to the lineup as well, debuting on Onkyo receivers just as the service came online for US residents. The service can be used on a free or subscription basis, with different tiers depending on what you want from Spotify.

Finally, Onkyo has expanded Last.fm support to all of its 2011 receivers - it was previously only available on certain models.

Spotify Music Streaming Service Launches in the US

The unlimited music streaming service has finally made its way across the Atlantic.

When it comes to streaming music, there really hasn't been that one perfect option yet. Pandora is fine, but it won't let you play any specific tracks. Qriocity and Zune are slick, but suffer from the Netflix issue of limited content. Spotify is the answer.

The streaming service that's been blowing Europeans away is finally here in the states and it's no less impressive. The free version of the service gives you instant access to millions of songs, though you'll have to listen to ads occasionally. The Unlimited version takes away the ads for five bucks a month and the Premium version gives you the ability to play music on your cell, allows an offline mode and gives you access to exclusive content.

The music selection seems absolutely limitless. Looking for a hard to find track by British synth-pop artist Baxendale? They've got it. Whether you're looking to listen to the entire catalog of video game rapper Mega Ran or an album from little known punk band Apocalypse Hoboken, you can find it on Spotify.

The only question now is how long it will take to get Spotify baked into Blu-ray players, receivers and TVs.
