Your friendly neighborhood serial killer will be back on Blu-ray in the coming months, and pre-orders are already live... unlike Dexter's victims.

In an early announcement to retailers, Showtime's 'Dexter: The Sixth Season' is getting ready to slice up Blu-ray this year.

In the sixth season, Miami blood splatter analyst Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) will find faith when a new serial killer emerges who leaves a religious trademark.

Specs, supplements, and a release date have not been set yet, but suggested list price for the Blu-ray is set at $65.99.

You can find the latest specs for 'Dexter: The Sixth Season' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under PENDING.

Showtime Anytime Offers Streaming to PCs

You won't find a streaming app quite yet, though a new social sharing app is available now for the iPad.

Being able to stream TV content to any device you have is, of course, the dream. We're not there yet - not by a longshot - but we may be on the way.

Showtime Anytime is a nice step forward for the company, especially after pulling their content from Netflix. It allows subscribers to watch shows on their PC or laptop by simply logging in to the site. It's nothing revolutionary, but it's convenient for those already paying for Showtime.

The offering is fairly incomplete as it is, at least as far as full features are concerned. You can't stream to a mobile device and, of course, there is no way to access the site if you aren't a subscriber. Being able to sign up for just Showtime Anytime would be really nice. You'll also have to wait a bit for it unless you're an AT&T U-Verse subscriber, since they get first dibs.

Netflix Bidding on Another Original Series and More

Rumor has it Netflix is looking to pick up the latest show by 'Weeds' creator Jenji Kohan.

Showtime has a lot going for it with shows like 'Californication,' 'Dexter' and the show that put the channel back into the public mind, 'Weeds.' Netflix has been doing well with the shows too, and the streaming versions of Showtime's series has been a highlight of the service for many subscribers.

'Weeds' creator Jenji Kohan has a new show in the works and though it seems natural for Showtime to pick this one up as well, the folks at Netflix have something else in mind. They've got their eyes on original content to add to their lineup and the rumor mill says they'll be putting in a bid on the new Kohan show, based on a book about life in a women's prison.

Netflix is also in talks with DreamWorks Animation. DreamWorks will reportedly offer Netflix exclusive streaming rights to its animated features - a deal that could be finished by the end of this week.

Netflix is Losing Californication and Dexter in New Deal with Showtime

Thu Mar 24, 2011 at 12:00 PM ET
Tags: Netflix, Showtime, Dexter (all tags)

Both shows will be streaming exclusively on Showtime's own service - Showtime Anytime.

Netflix is an obvious threat to premium cable channels. That's something HBO has known since day one, but others like Showtime have been a lot friendlier with the streaming service. That seems to be changing.

While the new deal between the two companies will include streaming rights to shows like 'The Tudors' and 'Sleeper Cell,' two of Showtime's biggest shows are being pulled. Both 'Dexter' and 'Californication' are being removed from the service.

The deal ends this summer, so if you're watching either show on Netflix, you've got plenty of time to finish. If you haven't started yet, it's time to get on it.
